Ms Sonika Kochhar, principal of Lodha World School shares her vision

Ms. Sonika Kochhar Girotra, an alumna of Delhi University, brings nearly two decades of experience across leading CBSE and Cambridge schools, including senior leadership at Ryan International Academy. She has served as Principal, Vice Principal, science educator, with a strong track record in academic excellence, teacher development, and student well-being. Recipient of multiple national honours including recognition from President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. She is known for creating inclusive, high-performing school cultures rooted in empathy, integrity, and holistic growth.

In an interview with Palava Times, the new principal shares her heartfelt vision for the year ahead.

Q1. What inspired you to join Lodha World School, Lakeshore Greens?
A: The school’s vision of holistic, child-centred education resonated deeply with me. The warmth of the community, the strong academic foundation, and the spirit of innovation immediately stood out. I felt this was a place where I could contribute meaningfully to joyful, values-driven learning and support every child’s growth.

Q2. If you had to choose one value that defines you as an educator, what would it be?
A: Empathy. For me, education begins with truly understanding every child and supporting every teacher. A school must be a space where kindness, respect, and human connection guide every decision.

Q3. What are your key priorities in your first year?
A: My focus is on building a warm, disciplined, child-centred environment where students grow with confidence and compassion. Strengthening classroom practices, empowering teachers, and creating meaningful learning experiences are central to this vision. Above all, I believe excellence emerges when students, teachers, and parents move forward together as one community.

Q4. What skills do you believe children need for the future?
A: Beyond academics, children need critical thinking, clear communication, teamwork, adaptability, resilience, compassion, and a sense of balance. These are the skills that will help them navigate life with confidence and purpose.

Q5. What message would you like to share with the Palava community?
A: I am truly grateful for the warm welcome. With your support and trust, we will continue shaping a school where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired. Together, as one Palava family, we can raise compassionate, confident global citizens. What we nurture in our classrooms can echo across our homes, our community, and our nation - building a future our children genuinely deserve.
